Arizona Life & Health Exam Day: What to Expect at PSI (2026)
Who Runs the Exam
Arizona life and health exams are delivered by PSI Services LLC. Arizona has recently moved its licensing exams to PSI, so older guides that name a different provider may be out of date. Schedule through PSI's Arizona portal at test-takers.psiexams.com/anzins, and read the current Arizona Candidate Information Bulletin (revised October 1, 2025) before your appointment. The Bulletin is where PSI sets out the rules for identification and check-in, and it is the document that governs the day.
Booking: Test Center or Online Proctored
When you schedule, PSI asks you to pick a modality: Test Center or Online Proctored. Arizona has named PSI test centers in Flagstaff, Parker, Phoenix, Queen Creek, Show Low, Somerton, Surprise, Tempe, Tucson and Yuma, and you can also use the wider PSI test-center network. Choose the center closest to your commute or your home, and check the appointment time against your work schedule.
Fees are paid when you book: $50 for either single-line exam, $59 for the combined exam. Fingerprints are required for licensure, so start the Fieldprint process on the Department's timeline rather than leaving it until after the exam.
Changing Your Appointment
If you need to move or cancel, do it at least 2 calendar days before the scheduled date to avoid forfeiting the fee. The exam fee is valid for one year from the date of payment. If English is not your first language, you may request time and a half by submitting a personal letter plus an instructor or sponsoring-company letter; arrange this before you book rather than on the day.
The Day Before
Do not try to learn new material. Spend the evening on a short mixed practice set, such as General Insurance Concepts, and review the explanations of anything you missed. Confirm the appointment time and the route to the test center, or, if you chose online proctoring, your equipment and your room. Follow PSI's Bulletin for the identification you must present, and make sure the name on your registration matches it exactly.
Inside the Exam
The format is multiple choice. The combined exam has 150 items and a 2.5-hour limit; each single-line exam has 100 items and 2 hours. PSI may add 5 to 10 experimental questions that are not scored, and you cannot tell which they are, so treat every item as live. The passing score is 70% correct on every exam.
Pacing matters on the long exam. Do a first pass at an even rhythm, answer what you know, and do not spend a disproportionate share of the clock on one stubborn scenario. Read the whole stem before you look at the options, and watch for NOT and BEST. If you are unsure, remove the options that are clearly wrong and choose between those that remain.
The Morning Of
Arrive early, or log in early if you are testing online, and give yourself a calm buffer. Eat something, bring what the Bulletin tells you to bring and leave the rest behind. Once the timer is running, your preparation is already done; the aim is to apply it steadily from the first item to the last.
After the Exam
If you pass, your next steps are the license application, the fingerprint-based background check and the $120 license fee. You must use a passing result to apply within one year after you pass. If you do not pass, you cannot book a new appointment on the same day, but you can call the next day and retest as soon as the day after, depending on space. The cap is four attempts per line of authority in 12 months, so read the retake rules before you rebook.
