$209.69 All-In: Arizona Life & Health License Cost 2026
The Bottom Line
Getting an Arizona Life, Accident and Health producer license costs $209.69 in required fees if you sit the combined exam once ($59), pay the license fee ($120), and complete fingerprinting ($30.69) — or $250.69 if you sit the two single-line exams separately ($50 + $50) plus the same license fee and fingerprinting. There is no pre-licensing course sitting on top of either total: A.R.S. § 20-285(B) conditions licensure on age, a clean record, paid fees and the exam alone.
- Required fees, both lines, first try, combined exam: $209.69
- Required fees, both lines, first try, two separate exams: $250.69
- Pre-licensing course: none required
- Fingerprint background check: required, $30.69 ($8.25 Fieldprint fee + $22.44 FBI processing fee)
- Exam preparation: $0 to several hundred dollars, your choice
- Each retake: $59 (combined) or $50 (either single-line exam)
- Continuing education: 48 hours per license term, including at least 6 hours of ethics
Required Fees, Item by Item
1. PSI Exam Fee — $59 Combined, $50 Per Single-Line Exam
Paid to PSI Services LLC when you schedule, per attempt. One $59 fee covers the combined Series 13-33 exam; sitting the two single-line exams (Series 13-31 and 13-32) separately costs $50 each, $100 total. The combined exam saves $41 — about 41 percent — off the two-exam path.
2. DIFI License Fee — $120 Flat Per License Class
Charged by the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions when you apply for your producer license. This fee is not per line of authority — it covers every line a producer holds within the Insurance Producer license class, so a producer licensed in both Life and Accident and Health pays the same $120 as one licensed in only one of those lines.
3. Fingerprint-Based Background Check — $30.69
Required for all resident applicants (A.R.S. § 20-285(E)(2)), processed through DIFI's electronic Fieldprint system: an $8.25 Fieldprint fee plus a $22.44 FBI fingerprint processing fee (paid to the Arizona Department of Public Safety), $30.69 total.
Add it up: $59 exam + $120 license fee + $30.69 fingerprint = $209.69 (combined exam), or $100 in exam fees + $120 + $30.69 = $250.69 (two separate exams).
Combined Exam or Two Single-Line Exams?
If you want both lines of authority, the combined exam is the cheaper and faster route: one $59 fee and one 2.5-hour appointment, instead of $100 across two $50 fees and two 2-hour appointments — four hours in the chair instead of 2.5. The license fee and fingerprint cost are the same either way, so the exam-fee difference is the whole saving.
The case for the two single-line path is narrower: if you are certain you will only ever hold one line, sit only that line's $50 exam and skip paying for, or studying, content you do not need.
Continuing Education
Arizona requires 48 hours of continuing education per license term — 3-4 years on first issuance, then full 4-year renewal terms — including at least 6 hours of ethics training, unless exempt. The 48 hours apply as a single pool regardless of how many major lines of authority (life, accident and health, property, casualty, personal lines) a producer holds; there is no per-license-type allocation rule.
Exemption requires all three: continuous Arizona licensure since January 1, 1995; never holding a nonresident license in another state since that date; and no disciplinary order under Arizona insurance law. Non-residents are not required to complete Arizona CE at all, provided their home state both requires CE of its own residents and recognizes Arizona-earned CE credits.
Prometric administers Arizona's continuing education — course approval and transcript hosting — the opposite role from the exam itself, which PSI delivers. Long-term care producers need an additional 8 hours of LTC training before selling LTC products, then 4 hours every two years; producers selling annuities need 4 hours of annuity training beforehand. Both sit on top of the 48-hour CE pool, though the specific course can double-count toward CE if it is also CE-approved. CE course prices are set by individual providers, not DIFI, so this guide does not quote a figure for them.
The Cost of a Retake
Every attempt costs the fee again: $59 for a failed combined exam, retaken as the combined exam, or $50 for a failed single-line exam, retaken as that single-line exam — you do not have to retake a line you already passed. There is no fixed mandatory wait beyond PSI's practical same-day scheduling block, but a hard ceiling applies: four attempts per line of authority within a 12-month period, then a mandatory one-year wait (A.R.S. § 20-284(H)).
The exam fee stays valid for one year from the date of payment, and a passed result must be used to file your license application within one year after you pass (A.R.S. § 20-284(A)). There is still no reason to pay the $59 or $50 fee twice when one more week of study might avoid it.
Study Materials by Budget
How much you spend on preparation is the biggest variable in the whole budget, and the first-time pass rates — roughly 56-60 percent on the combined exam, 49-55 percent on Life, 58 percent on Accident and Health — make it a real line item, not an optional one.
$0 — the free stack. PSI publishes its Series 13-33, 13-31 and 13-32 content outlines with the weight of every section, and its Candidate Information Bulletin explains the format and fee rules. Together they tell you what is tested, not how it works.
$14.99-$79 — a focused exam-prep course. LanePrep's Arizona Life, Accident and Health course is nine audio chapters built from the Series 13-33 content outline, with a chapter quiz after every chapter. It costs $14.99 per month or $79 once as the Pass Package. Chapters 1 and 9 are free, no signup, so you can judge the format before paying for either.
Full packages. National prep providers sell bundles with video lectures and a textbook at several times the price of a focused course. Make sure any package you buy is built from the Series 13-33 content outline and names PSI, not an outdated vendor, as the testing company.
Total Cost Scenarios
Three realistic budgets, each including the confirmed $30.69 fingerprinting cost.
Pass the combined exam on the first attempt — $209.69 to $288.69
- Combined exam fee $59
- License fee $120
- Fingerprinting $30.69
- Preparation: free stack ($0), one month of LanePrep ($14.99) or the Pass Package ($79)
Pass both single-line exams on the first attempt — $250.69 to $329.69
- Life exam fee $50
- Accident and Health exam fee $50
- License fee $120
- Fingerprinting $30.69
- Preparation: free stack ($0), one month of LanePrep ($14.99) or the Pass Package ($79)
One retake, combined exam — $268.69 to $347.69
- Everything in the combined-exam scenario above
- A second attempt at the combined exam: $59
- In practice, more preparation as well — the same preparation produced the first result
The gap between passing on the first try and needing one retake is $59, plus however many days it takes to get a new seat after PSI's same-day scheduling block. That is the arithmetic behind spending something on preparation: the most expensive study material is the kind that sends you back to retake an exam you already paid for once.
Ready to Start?
For most self-directed candidates the cost-optimal path is:
- Decide whether you need one line of authority or both. If both, the combined exam is the cheaper and faster route.
- Prepare with a focused course built for the outline you are actually sitting, so a retake is not the one you need.
- Book and pass your exam(s) through PSI, schedule your Fieldprint fingerprint appointment as soon as you pass, and file your application with DIFI ($120) within the one-year result-validity window.
LanePrep covers step 2: nine audio chapters built from the Series 13-33 content outline, each with its own quiz, for $14.99 per month or $79 once. Chapters 1 and 9 are free. For the exam itself — format, weights and a week-by-week plan — read how to pass the Arizona Life & Health exam on the first try.
Fees and the continuing-education structure come from PSI's Arizona Candidate Information Bulletin (Rev. October 1, 2025), A.R.S. §§ 20-284, 20-285 and 20-286, and DIFI's Continuing Education page. Read October 2026.
