How Many Questions Are on the Oklahoma Life & Health Exam? Format, Time Limit and Passing Score (2026)

4 min read|Updated 2026-10-28

The Short Answer

The combined Oklahoma Life, Accident and Health or Sickness exam has 150 scored questions and is timed at 150 minutes. You need 70% correct to pass. PSI's content outline prints 5 unscored questions in addition to the 150, and the PSI Candidate Information Bulletin says a small number (5 to 10) of experimental questions may be administered and are not scored. You cannot tell which questions those are, so treat every question as if it counts.

Oklahoma also offers the two lines as separate exams, Life and Accident and Health or Sickness. The table below shows all three.

The Three Exams

ExamScored questionsUnscored (outline)TimePassing scoreFee per attempt
Life1005120 minutes70% correct$38
Accident and Health or Sickness1005120 minutes70% correct$38
Life, Accident and Health or Sickness (combined)1505150 minutes70% correct$38

The combined exam tests both lines in one sitting for one $38 fee; the two single-line exams cost $38 each. LanePrep's Oklahoma course is built around the combined exam. PSI's current outlines took effect on 8/1/2026 and replaced the version in force through 7/31/2026.

What the 150 Scored Questions Cover

PSI states the outline in item counts, not percentages:

Licensing and State Insurance Statutes, Rules, and Regulations together are 38 items, about a quarter of the exam. Every sub-topic in those two sections carries its own statute or rule citation, for example Qualifications (36 O.S. §§401-406 and §1435.7), Disciplinary Actions (36 O.S. §§1435.13 and 1435.26), Maintenance, including continuing education (36 O.S. §§1435.23, 1435.29 and 1435.36 and OAC 365:25-3-1), unfair practices and frauds (36 O.S. §§1201-1207) and the Oklahoma Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association Act (36 O.S. §§2022-2025).

The Single-Line Exams

The Life exam (100 scored items) has six sections: Licensing 6, State Insurance Statutes, Rules, and Regulations 19, Provisions, Options, Exclusions, Riders, Clauses, and Rights 28, Life Products 25, Underwriting 20 and Considerations in Replacing Insurance 2.

The Accident and Health or Sickness exam (100 scored items) has eight: Licensing 6, State Insurance Statutes, Rules, and Regulations 19, Provisions, Options, Exclusions, Riders, Clauses, and Rights 32, Underwriting 10, Considerations in Replacing Insurance 3, Health Providers and Products 20, Medicare 5 and Long-Term Care (LTC) Policies 5.

Scored, Unscored and the Passing Score

The passing score is a raw percentage. PSI's bulletin states it plainly: you must get 70% correct to pass, and it mentions no scaled score. On the combined exam that is 105 correct answers out of 150 scored questions; on a single-line exam, 70 out of 100. The unscored questions neither help nor hurt you.

The exam is computer-administered, one question at a time. A 15-minute tutorial beforehand is not counted against your exam time. 150 minutes for 155 questions is a little under a minute per question.

Using the Format to Plan Your Study

Study to the item counts. The 42-item Provisions section and the 38 items of Oklahoma law repay the most study per hour. Weak spots cost different amounts too: Medicare and long-term care are only 10 items together, so a gap there costs less than a gap in underwriting (13) or life products (30).
