Missouri Life & Health Exam Day: What to Expect at Pearson VUE (2026)
The Short Answer
Missouri Life, Accident & Health exams are delivered by Pearson VUE at physical test centers. You bring valid photo identification, check in, and sit a timed exam: 2 hours for the Life or Accident and Health single-line exam, 3 hours for the combined exam. The passing score is a scaled 70.
Booking Your Exam
You choose the exam first: Life (50), Accident and Health (51), or the combined Life, Accident and Health exam (54). Fees are $32, $32 and $40 per attempt. The Pearson VUE Missouri candidate handbook (March 2026) lists test centers on its back cover. If you need to retake, remember that candidates wait one day before scheduling a reexamination, and reservations for a reexamination are not made at the test center.
Book with enough lead time to finish your preparation, not just to secure a convenient slot. A pass is valid for one year, but your study momentum is not.
In-Person Only
The handbook describes physical Pearson VUE test centers and military-site testing at authorized centers on military installations. It does not mention an online or remote-proctored option for Missouri, so plan to test in person. Military candidates should read the handbook's military-site testing section.
What to Bring
The handbook's what-to-bring section lists photo identification requirements and nothing else you must carry. Read that section before your appointment, and make sure the name on your identification matches the name on your registration. No fingerprinting is part of the standard producer license process.
Check-In and the Testing Room
Arrive early, present your identification, and follow the test center staff's instructions. The exam is timed, and the clock is the main pressure: 2 hours for a single-line exam, 3 hours for the combined exam. The single-line exams carry 90 scored plus 10 unscored pretest questions, and you cannot tell which questions are the pretest items, so give each one your full attention.
The exam is in English only. Candidates for whom English is a second language may request 1.5 times the standard time, with a letter from an instructor, an employer or a sponsoring company.
Working Through the Exam
- Read the whole question and every option. NOT and BEST questions are common and punish quick reading.
- Work arithmetic in a fixed order. Deductible first, then coinsurance on the remainder, then the out-of-pocket cap.
- Pace yourself against the clock. Do not spend several minutes on one item in a 2-hour sitting.
- Stay steady on the Missouri-law items. They ask for specific rules, so recall beats reasoning there.
After the Exam
Your passing score is a scaled 70 on a 0 to 100 scale. If you pass, wait 24 to 48 hours for your result to load before applying for the license through NIPR. The license application fee is $100. A passing score stays valid for one year. The license does not allow you to transact business until an insurer appoints you.
If you do not pass, wait one day before scheduling again and read the retake rules. A change to your study approach matters more than a quick rebook.
The Week Before
In the last week, stop adding new material and consolidate. Re-listen to the lessons on the sections you find hardest, redo your missed practice questions, and run at least one sitting under exam timing, 2 hours for a single-line exam or 3 hours for the combined exam, so that the length of the real thing does not come as a surprise. Confirm your appointment, your travel time to the test center, and that your identification is valid and matches your registration. Sleep matters more than one more late-night chapter.
